Why it's free
The whole app runs inside your browser. There is no server doing work for you, so there is almost nothing for us to pay for, and nothing to charge you for.
What we never do
- Upload your document.
- Ask you to create an account.
- Store your files, your text, or your signature on any server.
- Add a watermark.
- Limit how many files you can sign.
Questions
- Is it safe for personal documents like tax forms or immigration forms?
Yes. The file is opened by your browser from your own disk, edited in memory, and saved back to your disk. It is never sent anywhere. You can turn off your internet connection after the page loads and it will still work.
- Does it work with fillable government forms?
Yes. Form fields are detected and highlighted. Click one to type into it, press Tab to move to the next, and click a checkbox to check it. The downloaded file is flattened, so it looks the same in every viewer.
- Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. You can type and sign anywhere on any page, whether or not the PDF has form fields.
- Is my signature stored?
Only in your own browser, so you don't have to draw it again. You can remove it any time from the Sign dialog.
- Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in Safari and Chrome. Pinch to zoom in on a field.
- Can I edit text that is already in the PDF?
No. You can add text, check marks, and signatures on top of the document, but existing content stays as it is.
- Can I check that it really works this way?
Yes. The code is open source under the MIT license, and the page can be inspected in your browser's developer tools: there are no requests carrying your document.
